Summer Camp

Have an unforgettable Summer Camp experience at the Queens Zoo!

WCS Education Camp Principles of Excellence:

  • Create a welcoming and safe camp experience for all
  • Foster curiosity, scientific inquiry, and critical thinking
  • Instill an appreciation and connection to local nature
  • Spend at least half of camp time outside the classroom
  • Inspire all to take conservation action

Most camps run Monday - Friday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00p.m. and include:

  • Daily explorations of our exciting Queens Zoo exhibits
  • Daily up-close encounters with animal ambassadors
  • Science and learning investigations inside the classroom and out and about in nature
  • Fun games that foster a love of wildlife and science discoveries
  • Nature inspired art projects
  • Healthy snacks served daily
  • Special closing ceremony for caregivers on Fridays that will begin prior to 3:00 p.m.

Extended Care Program

Stay at the Zoo a little longer! Extended care is a great option for caregivers who can't pick up their camper at 3pm and allows grown-ups to pick up anytime before 5:30pm. Minimum number required to run the program

TIME: 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
DAYS: Monday through Friday
COST: $125 members / $150 non-members

Toddler Time Camp (ages 2-3 with caregiver)

Welcome to Toddler Camp, where we sing, dance, learn, touch, play, craft, and so much more! Everything we do in camp is inspired by animals- slither like a snake, bock like a chicken, run your fingers through soft fur, and play in the water like a turtle! Get a chance to explore exhibits and meet animals up-close during encounters in the classroom too.

KinderZoo (entering Pre-K4 - K grades)

As we get older we discover all the ways humans are special, and at Kinderzoo, we will discover what makes all different kinds of animals special! With exhibit visits, animal encounters, games, crafts, and more, we will learn by having fun during this week long camp! Camp weeks A and B have different topics, so that your chld can enjoy two weeks of our exciting programs.

Animal Babies (3 Day Camp)

Reptiles, birds and mammals, oh my! Let's learn how babies are raised depending on whether they're scaly, feathery, or furry! Reptiles and birds lay eggs while mammals give live birth, but who takes care of these babies after they hatch or are born? Let's find out together through exhibit visits, up-close animal enounters and hands-on activities!

Week of Wildlife (entering 1st and 2nd grades)

Let's explore what it takes to survive out in the wild! Just like us, animals need shelter, food, and water to survive. Every animal plays an important role in the web of life! We will hide like prey, hunt like predators, search for special adaptations of animals in the zoo and so much more this week! Camp weeks A and B have different topics, so that your child can enjoy two weeks of our exciting programs. All camp weeks include up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

Zoo Explorer (entering 3rd - 5th grades)

Our world is constantly changing and just like animals, we play an important role in ecosystem health. How can we as humans help our animal friends? This week we will learn how we can be stewards to our local and global environments and gain a better understanding of our ambassador animals! Camp weeks A and B have different topics, so that your chld can enjoy two weeks of our exciting programs. Both sessions include up-close animal encounters, visits to exhibits and hands-on activities!

Junior Scientist (entering 6th - 8th grades)

Junior Scientists have an amazing opportunity during this week-long camp to think critically about climate change and how this may affect animals. Using the zoo, exhibits and up-close animal enounters as their inspiration, campers will simulate, build, incorporate technology, and have fun while conquering pressing issues of our time!
